About the Role

The Manager of Creative Services supervises the overall quality of work produced by graphic designers, outside creative vendors, freelance photographers, and videographers. Responsibilities include overseeing all system, hospital, and service line creative projects from concept to completion, assisting in translating marketing objectives into creative strategies, and directing graphic designers and multi-media producers in the production of all Marketing/Communications (MARCOM) collateral. Manages all design services, which includes consultation, concept development, cost estimates, and production.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership:
    • Establishes and maintains positive, productive, and collaborative relationships with system, hospitals, service line, and departmental leaders, as well as MARCOM teams, to advance the Memorial mission, vision, strategic objectives, and business goals.
    • Demonstrates understanding and exhibits system thinking in achieving MARCOM goals.
    • Leads fellow members of MARCOM and agency of record to develop creative concepts for system, service lines, and hospitals.
    • Reviews specifications on requested jobs, processes edits, proofs completed jobs for MARCOM teams, including Communications, Marketing, and Digital, ensuring proper use of logo, EEO statement, disclaimers, etc., and coordinates completion dates to meet deadlines.
    • Supervises and trains employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
    • Reviews departmental plans’ impact of existing and new department-specific programs and/or regulatory actions and directs formulation of department objectives to accomplish goals.
    • Executes and manages team remediation plans to ensure positive outcomes and goal achievement.
  • Brand Management:
    • Ensures brand recognition and perception is in high regard with stakeholders and the community.
    • Collaborates with MARCOM VP and leaders and supporting agencies on research to gain a better understanding of the brand and how it can be enhanced with key stakeholders through strategized MARCOM plans and campaigns.
    • Ensures that all projects reflect Memorial Healthcare System’s corporate identity.
    • Oversees all design, coordination, and implementation of signage across the system for brand consistency.
    • Coordinates production of marketing materials with in-house print shop or printing vendors.
    • Maintains a digital library of photography and art files for use in both external and internal communications materials.
    • Reviews, directs, and recommends art direction and image suggestions for MARCOM, leadership, and vendors.
    • Advises the Digital team on concepts for all web design and development for brand consistency.
    • Informs VP and Senior Director of any design or copy changes made by clients that may affect brand message or identity.
    • Approves all creative assets, including video, art, collateral, etc., prior to publication to ensure brand integrity.
  • MARCOM Strategy:
    • Leads the Graphic Design Team in the assessment of system, hospital, and service line strategies to effectively create Marketing and Communications (MARCOM) campaigns to enhance the brand.
    • Responsible for concept development, design, management, and production of creative assets, including print, digital, etc., for all MARCOM creative campaigns.
    • Meets with internal customers to formulate creative concepts inclusive of themes, graphics, and new assets to successfully share MARCOM messaging.
    • Leads the team in the development of all MARCOM materials (e.g., print advertisements, direct mail, billboards, brochures, newsletters, digital assets).
    • Executes the graphic development of printed materials from concept through production on time and within budget.
    • Develops and manages relationships with internal and external customers and vendors, including outside agencies, freelancers, photographers, designers, printers, and vendors as needed.
    • Demonstrates a strong working knowledge of effective design, brand development, interactive commerce, and the creative process.
  • Quality:

    • Maintains graphic arts skills required for understanding the capabilities and limitations of computer-based graphics and vendor's product lines.
    • Supervises and maintains standards of quality on all design projects by exercising evaluative judgments to protect and preserve the integrity of the overall brand.
    • Creates and maintains an effective, collaborative, engaged, and inclusive team with an emphasis on open, direct, and honest communication that supports employee engagement, retention, system thinking, regional performance, and market success.

    • Demonstrates current knowledge of graphics and video trends, technologies, and developments. Participates in continuing education programs.
    • Ensures adequate management of department plans consistent with the organization’s policies and objectives.
    • Responsible for regular maintenance of brand guidelines and education of MARCOM, agency of record, vendors, and others to ensure standards are met.
  • Creative Budget:
    • Accountable for the key financial indicators of the Graphics Team; plans and evaluates the assigned area’s fiscal function and performance.
    • Manages and maintains cost-effectiveness in design and production.
    • In coordination with VP and leaders, completes campaign budgets and oversees agency of record projected hours and expenses to ensure budget compliance, maximizing return on investment.
    • Recommends processes that are most cost-efficient and meet the budget for production, labor, etc.
    • Identifies areas of standardization and economies of scale in design and production.
    • Identifies opportunities for partnering and shared use for advertisements/collateral throughout Memorial.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (required).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Proven project management skills desired.
