Manager, Community Benefits and Community Relations
About the role
This position will be on-site full-time for 6 months and then 3–4 days/week. The role supports Lahey Clinic and central BILH CBCR projects and initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Community Benefits and Community Relations for Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH), the CBCR Manager advances the community mission of BILH by serving as the primary point of contact for community organizations and community members in BILH’s Community Benefits Service Area (CBSA).
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with federal, state and local community benefits regulatory requirements; final review and sign-off of regulatory reports for submission to the IRS, state Attorney General’s Office, Department of Public Health and municipalities.
- Review and complete all data entered into the Community Benefits Database and required documentation such as variance explanations, goal achievement and program categorization.
- Manage hospitals’ involvement in local community engagement, the triennial needs assessment, prioritization and cross-sector collaboration, including development and implementation of the Implementation Strategy.
- Collaborate with CBCR, hospital and system leadership to design and implement evidence-based strategies addressing priority populations; monitor and evaluate impact of CB programming.
- Manage Community Benefits Advisory and Allocation Committees: prepare meeting packets, coordinate logistics and communications, and work with members to engage historically underserved cohorts.
- Build and sustain strategic relationships; promote CBCR activities and programming to internal and external audiences; plan events and convenings with community and municipal partners.
- Serve as primary point of contact for community organizations, public health entities and community members; represent the hospital on assigned coalitions.
- Coordinate with the Manager of Community Health Centers to identify and align efforts with affiliated health centers.
- Manage and monitor local and system community programs and investments to ensure compliance with terms, conditions, goals and metrics; provide oversight and technical assistance.
- Deploy tools and concepts to align projects with prioritized health needs; ensure deliverables are accurate, high-quality and timely.
- Manage multiple demands and projects simultaneously; negotiate with internal and external agencies on CB programs; develop proposals and costing for program development and present to CBCR Leadership Team.
- Plan, monitor and manage budget in functional area; support BILH/system-level CBCR initiatives and special projects.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of healthcare and community trends, community investment best practices and regulatory reporting requirements.
Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree in Public Policy, Health or Administration strongly preferred.
- Experience: 5–7 years of related work experience required; 0–1 years of supervisory/management experience required. Experience in program development, implementation and evaluation; minimum 5 years collaborating with multiple stakeholders.

- Knowledge of diverse cultures and neighborhoods; well-versed in community health, community development, community engagement and upstream social determinants of health.
- Advanced skills with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and other web-based applications to produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.
- Ability to make decisions guided by precedents, policies and objectives; address highly varied, complex problems requiring innovation and creativity; set goals and priorities for the functional area.
- Ability to accurately communicate complex information in plain English in writing and verbally; consider health literacy and frame consistent messaging for varied audiences; resolve conflicts and negotiate effectively.
- Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative environment and improving workflows.
Physical Requirements & Environment
Initial orientation period (estimated six months) is full-time on-site at assigned hospitals and/or System Center (Charlestown, MA). After orientation, the position is hybrid with three to four days on-site at assigned BILH hospitals, in the community and at BILH System Center; one day (or max two days) per week is remote. Evening and weekend hours may be required. Frequent travel between campuses, community events and organizations is expected.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $100,000.00 – $120,000.00 USD annually. Actual compensation is determined based on seniority, education, training, relevant experience, certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities and other applicable factors permissible by law.
