Manager - Central Claims

Essential Responsibilities

  • Manages team for consistency of claims handling in compliance with the policy terms and applicable laws.
  • Maintains oversight of claims workload and pending cases for equitable distribution among representatives within the unit.
  • Promotes company customer service philosophy and monitors its implementation.
  • Maintains daily reserves on all claims within the unit.
  • Provides expense information to the General Manager of Claims for budgeting purposes.
  • Evaluates exposure and grants settlement authority within the manager's authority level on claims over the representative's authority.
  • Reports regularly to the General Manager of Claims on staff files and litigation files, recommending reserve, settlement ranges, and requesting authority beyond his/her level.
  • Communicates company policy, procedures, and answers questions regarding coverage, liability, exposure, and legal applications.
  • Conducts annual performance evaluations and salary reviews.
  • Reviews Insurance Department complaints to ensure compliance with company policy and applicable laws.
  • Completes monthly reports to the General Manager of Claims, detailing volume, pending cases, productivity, training, personnel issues, and miscellaneous unit-related items.
  • Ensures completion of audit functions as outlined by the General Manager and Vice President of Claims.
  • Recommends staffing levels to handle assigned claims and provide excellent customer service to insureds, claimants, and agents.
  • Conducts interviews for Claim Representative openings.
  • Coordinates and assists in the training of new Claim Representatives to ensure consistent training topics.
  • Provides ongoing training and seminars for representatives relevant to the related states and insurance topics within their unit.
  • Promotes morale, team atmosphere, and company pride within the unit.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Qualifications

  • College degree and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of property and casualty insurance.
  • Knowledgeable in all matters relating to property and casualty claims practices, policies, and procedures.
