Manager, Center for Learning and Professional Development
New Mexico State University's Center for Learning and Professional Development is seeking an experienced manager to lead impactful programs that support the growth of faculty, staff, and the broader NMSU community.
About the role
Under the direction of the Associate Vice President/CHRO, this position manages various programs, including professional development events, workshop events, new employee onboarding and offboarding, and the service excellence program, along with all other programming offered by the Center for Learning & Professional Development (CLPD). The incumbent assists the CHRO with ensuring the department’s goals and objectives are accomplished efficiently and effectively.
The incumbent provides leadership and guidance to department staff and may work closely with University leadership to help train, coach, and recognize employees. The role involves providing feedback to the CHRO on the day-to-day performance of department staff, managing the department’s workflow, projects, programs, events, and performance items to achieve unit goals successfully.
Additional responsibilities include conducting needs assessments, designing curriculum, facilitating workshops (live and online), and evaluating programs and learning for all staff employees. The incumbent will work closely with the CHRO to evolve the strategic direction of the department and expand learning and development opportunities for all faculty and staff.

Responsibilities
- Manage professional development events, workshops, new employee onboarding/offboarding, and the service excellence program.
- Assist the CHRO in achieving departmental goals and objectives.
- Provide leadership and guidance to department staff; collaborate with University leadership on training, coaching, and recognition.
- Provide feedback to the CHRO on staff performance.
- Oversee department workflow, projects, programs, events, and performance metrics.
- Conduct needs assessments, design curriculum, and facilitate live and online workshops.
- Evaluate programs and learning initiatives for staff employees.
- Work with the CHRO to evolve the department’s strategic direction and expand learning opportunities.
- Build and nurture relationships to foster collaboration across the institution.
- Promote a learning culture and community for faculty and staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (e.g., Human Resources, Education, Business Leadership, Management, Event Management, or Communications) from a regionally accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3 years of related experience in Learning and Development, Talent Development, Performance Management, Human Resources, or a related field, including 1–2 years of supervisory experience.
- 1 year of Learning Management System (LMS) administrator experience.
- 6 months to 1 year of experience using Workday or another HRIS platform.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate in Learning and Development, Curriculum Development, Human Resources, or adult education.
- Certification in curriculum design or e-learning design.
- 4–5 years of experience in Learning and Development or Talent Development with adults.
- 2–3 years of supervisory experience.
- 1–2 years of experience in higher education.
- 2 years of intermediate to advanced experience using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- 1 year of experience using Adobe Captivate or other e-learning design software.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a typical interior/office environment.
- No or very limited physical effort required; occasional handling of objects up to 10 pounds.
- No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Pay
$67,161.67 – $73,877.83 annually.
Schedule
Standard (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM).
