About the role

The Manager, Business Development plays an important role within the Business Development & Marketing team, working with leadership to ensure effective implementation of Firm policies, procedures, and guidelines. This role focuses on the tactical aspects of operational delivery, utilizing a comprehensive understanding of Business Development to manage the CRM database and contribute to the preparation of client proposals. The Manager provides sound commercial recommendations to aid decision-making and supports the leadership team in executing the Business Development strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the development and coordination of strategic business growth initiatives, working closely with leadership and the wider BD & Marketing team.
  • Actively supports and manages BD activities, such as tracking BD opportunities in the Firm's CRM and matter database, and collaborates with relevant Legal teams to win work.
  • Utilizes comprehensive knowledge of Business Development and related tools to address complex issues, challenges, and opportunities, enabling the firm to maximize new business opportunities and retain key clients.
  • Leads process improvements and innovation in Business Development to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Contributes to commercial decision-making, advising on strategies to maintain and improve client relationships, anticipating and acting upon client needs and circumstances.
  • Assists in the creation of comprehensive Business Development plans in alignment with industry groups' focus and the firm's strategic objectives.
  • Performs comprehensive tracking and reporting of Business Development performance against key metrics, and provides in-depth analysis of results to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Aligns Business Development practices with the wider BD & Marketing operations to ensure consistency and collaboration.
  • Leads one or more teams of supervisors, professionals, and coordinators, managing operations within a designated area or department.
  • Leads projects within broader initiatives, providing technical guidance, setting priorities for the team, and reviewing the work of others.
  • Engages in operational and tactical activities, contributing to and supporting decision-making within the team or sub-function.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert, possessing advanced and specialized expertise in the discipline, including methodologies and processes, to address atypical issues.
  • Manages small professional and/or defined delivery teams across regional and global offices, impacting business primarily through professional or technical contributions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent through experience/relevant certifications where appropriate to the discipline.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders at various levels of the firm.
  • Ability to think critically and analytically, leveraging data and insights to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.

This role reports to the Associate Director, Business Development, Disputes - Litigation.
