About the role
The Billing Manager oversees all aspects of the client billing process, including system and data maintenance, continuous process improvements, revenue recognition accuracy, and team development.
Responsibilities
- Oversee semi-monthly billing process, ensuring accurate and timely distribution of client invoices and resolution of reconciling items.
- Serve as the authoritative billing contact with PBM partners for complex billing matters, regulatory requirements, and contractual terms related to revenue and client invoicing.
- Ensure appropriate revenue recognition for existing and new revenue streams, including monthly accruals and deferrals.
- Review monthly close tasks prepared by Billing Coordinators and Senior Billing Accountant, evaluating balance sheet and income statement accounts for proper activity.
- Act as a liaison between the billing team and other departments, including Account Management, Broker Relations, and Product/IT.
- Partner with leadership of other Accounting teams (Accounts Receivable, Commissions, Financial Risk) to ensure seamless client-facing interactions.
- Supervise and develop a team of 8-10 employees through frequent one-on-ones, skip-level meetings, and weekly team meetings.
- Conduct periodic reviews of process documentation to ensure proper controls, efficiencies, and adaptation to changing business dynamics.
- Monitor the ticketing system for clients and internal departments, ensuring service level standards are met and ticket volume is properly distributed.
- Maintain and administer billing technology tools in collaboration with internal Product/IT teams.
- Design and review monthly audits of client fees, investigating discrepancies for root cause analysis.
- Prepare documentation and assist with the annual external financial statement audit.
- Maintain accuracy of the Confluence Accounting site.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- 5+ years of experience in a directly related accounting role.
- Experience managing a team of 5+ employees.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Demonstrated experience with process documentation and implementing process improvements.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA license.
- Pharmacy benefit industry experience.
Pay
The anticipated hiring range for this role is $88,000 to $110,000 annually. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, knowledge, and internal equity. This role is also eligible for short-term incentives, with amounts varying by individual and business goals.
