About the role

The Manager Athletic Training – Special Projects role is responsible for providing operational leadership, program management, and strategic support to strengthen athletic training services, partnerships, and community outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Leading major programs and events such as Heart of a Champion, CPR and Stop the Bleed training, and workforce readiness initiatives.
  • Oversight of assigned partnerships and management of staff, including float pool and PRN athletic trainers.
  • Ensuring operational continuity through scheduling and event coverage.
  • Producing and analyzing reports, maintaining inventory, and supporting compliance efforts.
  • Serving as a primary liaison for partner organizations such as Guilford College.
  • Supporting marketing, digital content, and community engagement initiatives to enhance brand visibility.
  • Leading organizational committees, employee engagement efforts, and strategic projects that improve policies, procedures, technology optimization, and overall athletic training operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) accredited athletic training program.
  • Experience as a Board of Certification (BOC) certified Athletic Trainer varies with each level (refer to addendums).
  • Experience as an athletic trainer in a high school or college setting.
  • BOC certified and licensed as a Certified Athletic Trainer in the State of applicable state.
  • Completion of American Heart Association Healthcare Provider that includes CPR and AED training.

Qualifications

  • Comprehensive understanding of athletic training principles and practices.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and legal requirements related to athletic training.
  • Experience with data analysis and reporting tools.
