About the role
Come lead with us at Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital. The Manager Advance Practice Provider (APP) position is responsible for quality, functional excellence and contribution of the department's output to the accomplishment of strategic and operational objectives of Houston Methodist. This role provides strategic direction for nursing and business operations consistent with the company's mission and values, serves as a liaison to the Medical Staff, Hospital Leadership Team, Administration and Nursing Leadership, and functions as a clinical NP maintaining a patient assignment as appropriate.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily work activities of the NP/PA department, ensuring quality, productivity, functional excellence and efficiency.
- Provide leadership and communication to maintain a competent and engaged employee group, including selection, scheduling, supervision, retention, and evaluation of staff.
- Conduct regular department meetings, rounding, performance appraisals, coaching, corrective counseling, and recognition to achieve desired outcomes.
- Facilitate teamwork, process improvements, and strategic relationships across departments, units, and physician groups.
- Plan and organize day‑to‑day NP/PA operations, set priorities, and drive service standards to achieve high patient/customer satisfaction.
- Serve on various entity committees as a voice for the NP/PA department and disseminate information to staff.
- Assess and develop NP/PA staff development programs, and assist with their implementation and evaluation.
- Ensure a safe and effective work environment by monitoring safety plans, accreditation/regulatory guidelines, and staff credentials.
- Lead quality and safety initiatives, including benchmarking, outcome improvement, and lean process improvements.
- Assist in department budget development, monitor expenses, manage staffing plans, and implement cost‑saving strategies.
- Identify and implement innovative workflow solutions, support change initiatives, and provide visionary leadership for NP/PA programs.
- Mentor staff, support professional development, conduct research collaborations, and contribute to practice standards at regional/national levels.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or higher from an accredited school of Nursing.
- Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Five years of clinical experience, including at least three years as a Nurse Practitioner (supervisory experience strongly preferred).
- Texas RN licensure (Texas Board of Nursing) and APRN Non‑Acute Care state license.
- Magnet ANCC‑recognized Non‑Acute Care practitioner certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or instructor (American Heart Association).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or instructor (American Heart Association).
- Prescriptive Authority (Texas Board of Nursing).
- DEA Narcotics License (within 6 months).
- Preferred: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or instructor (within 6 months).
- Preferred: Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) (within 6 months).
