About the role

We are seeking an experienced General Accounting Manager to lead the accounting operations and ensure the integrity of financial reporting for the growing $450M+ Warfighter Systems division. This role will report directly to the Warfighter Systems Controller in Roanoke, VA.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the local Accounting department, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Reconciliations.
  • Lead local Finance Closing (month-end, quarterly, year-end) processes; prepare and review journal entries, closing documentation, and approvals.
  • Own overall account reconciliation processes; utilize BlackLine system for closing and reconciliation tracking.
  • Prepare and review accurate financial statements and reports; ensure timely reporting to Warfighter Systems and Corporate Finance teams.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and internal financial policies; utilize AuditBoard to maintain SOX controls and procedures; support external E&Y audit testing and requests.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train direct accounting staff; lead team goal setting, performance evaluations, and professional development.
  • Partner with IT team to support key Accounting processes in legacy ERP system while new A&D Infor ERP system is implemented.
  • Own Cash management; support new Working Capital reporting and improvement initiatives; develop Operating Cashflow forecasting process.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities for Capex, Cashflow, and Expense items; support FP&A function with variance analysis.
  • Champion continuous improvement within the Finance/Accounting team; identify and implement tools and training; take on special Finance projects.
  • Act as a business partner to the Warfighter Systems Site Leadership Team; collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Human Resources, Operations, Engineering, and Purchasing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting; CPA is a plus but not required.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant Finance/Accounting work experience, preferably with General Ledger, Payroll, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable functions.
  • Previous leadership experience as manager with direct reports preferred.
  • Experience working in a project-oriented manufacturing/engineering environment preferred.
  • Advanced expertise analyzing financial information; high degree of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to design Finance processes and metrics within the functional area.
  • Proven solid work ethic; ability to act and operate independently to accomplish objectives and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly effective communication skills (verbal and written); able to communicate financial terms clearly and concisely.
  • Mindset of continuous improvement; strong problem-solving skills and ability to proactively identify and implement process improvements.
  • Advanced expertise with MS Excel including complex formulas and pivot tables.
  • Defense contracting experience and working knowledge of Government cost principles (FAR, DFARS, CAS) is a plus but not required.

Pay

The salary range listed for this position reflects the anticipated base pay range for this role. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, business needs, internal equity, and geographic location.
