Management Trainee - Operations
Indiana Packers Corporation (IPC), a dynamic fresh pork processor based in Delphi, Indiana, is a fully integrated retail, food service, and private-label producer of fresh and processed meats. IPC is majority-owned by Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan’s largest trading company, and employs nearly 3,000 team members across four primary processing facilities.
About the role
This 24-week rotating Management Trainee program provides hands-on exposure to every department within our mid-sized pork processing facility. Trainees who successfully complete the program will be placed in a full-time front-line Supervisor position.
Responsibilities
- Rotate through all assigned departments to learn operations.
- Communicate with department leaders on training, performance, discipline, compliance, and employee motivation and development.
- Direct departmental activities to meet safety, quality, and production goals.
- Accurately compile and complete daily records of operations goals, including equipment downtime, product audits, employee job rotations, and yield tracking.
- Perform additional duties as assigned; responsibilities may change with or without notice.
Requirements
- Recent college graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Operations Management, Food Science, Agribusiness, or a related field from an accredited college.
- Willingness to work daily or weekly overtime.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with people.
- Professionalism, confidentiality, diligence, and strong ethics.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office products; ability to learn enterprise software and database reporting tools.
- Ability to work independently, identify solutions, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication skills in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Consistent attendance and adherence to scheduled working hours.
Work Environment
- Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration.
- Loud noise levels requiring hearing protection.
- Regular work near moving mechanical parts and in cold, hot, and outdoor conditions, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, and dust.
Physical Demands
- Lifting heavy objects, walking, and standing for long periods.
- Performing strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
- Lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects using abdominal and lower back muscles without fatigue.
- Good manual dexterity (hands, arms, fingers, and coordination of two hands).
- Ability to quickly move arms and legs.
- Excellent stamina and vision.
