About the role
As General Manager you are responsible for the overall Planning, Organizing, Leading, and Controlling (P-O-L-C) functions of a Copart facility. You will manage all aspects of the P-O-L-C framework to meet budget, revenue, and customer-satisfaction targets while ensuring compliance with Copart policies and creating a customer-first environment for both internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Partner with HR to attract, recruit, develop, and retain a diverse, high-performing team.
- Train and develop staff to meet company guidelines and expectations; deliver timely annual Continuous Improvement Summaries (CIS).
- Foster continual, positive communication and feedback with staff; hold team members accountable with unbiased fairness to drive performance.
- Create a highly engaged team environment that encourages execution, innovation, productivity, and leadership development.
- Maintain high personal integrity in all interactions and decisions.
- Proactively manage performance of managers and staff, addressing opportunities quickly and taking appropriate action when needed.
- Oversee day-to-day operations, becoming a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in all office and yard processes.
- Recruit and maintain an appropriate number of sub-haulers to meet the facility’s logistical requirements.
- Ensure compliance with System Quality Reviews, Field Quality Reviews, and Equipment and Safety Reviews; escalate any concerns to the Regional Manager.
- Set goals and ensure employees leverage provided tools to achieve continual success.
- Ensure facility compliance with county, state, EPA, OSHA, and Department of Motor Vehicle regulations.
- Disseminate company goals and initiatives to all employees to ensure transparency and clarity.
- Manage customer relationships (buyers, sellers, and internal customers).
- Identify knowledge and skill gaps within the team and implement remedies.
- Serve as a brand ambassador for Copart’s mission, vision, values, and culture.
- Communicate professionally with all levels of leadership, both written and verbal.
- Support local or non-local CAT events as needed.
- Understand and manage the assigned Profit and Loss Statement, identifying opportunities to increase revenue and decrease costs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Regional Manager or upper management.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2–3 years of management experience (military or other relevant experience preferred).
- Proven track record of driving operational excellence and executing corporate goals.
- Metric-driven mindset.
- Experience supporting change initiatives and ensuring teams adapt effectively and positively.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to adjust tone and style for different audiences.
- Strong relationship-building and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong decision-making skills, weighing benefits and risks to choose the best course of action.
- Strong listening skills, actively addressing issues or concerns to develop solutions.
- Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to multi-task while maintaining positivity and urgency.
- Bilingual skills a plus.
- Travel may be required.
- Valid Driver’s License.
