MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT / EMERGENCY APPOINTMENT HOMELESSNESS

LA County is responding to the homelessness crisis declared a local state of emergency. The Department of Public Health seeks qualified candidates for emergency Management Assistant roles to support initiatives addressing housing, mental health, and substance use. Under the emergency order, applicants may be hired for an initial 90-day period with the opportunity for permanent County employment based on performance assessment.

About the role

Management Assistants perform research and analysis to support management decisions, often handling confidential or sensitive information that impacts major departmental programs and administrative operations. This entry-level analyst role works under close supervision, assisting with management staff support functions such as human resources, finance, budget, grants, audits, contracts, and capital projects. Assignments are structured to develop broader skills for progressively more complex responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Research information from sources like internet searches, reports, and interviews to provide valid data for analysis and decision-making.
  • Compile and categorize information in tables, spreadsheets, or data files to facilitate analysis.
  • Analyze information using qualitative and quantitative methods to draw conclusions.
  • Develop or recommend programs/policies to address problems or improve operations based on research findings.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, and presentations using software to communicate with departmental personnel, the public, and governing boards.
  • Interact with vendors, managers, and external agencies in meetings, presentations, and consultations to share ideas and coordinate activities.
  • Coordinate activities of contractors, consultants, and outside agencies to ensure successful program implementation.
  • Monitor processes and programs by gathering and analyzing relevant information to ensure stability and progress.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness by comparing outcomes to goals to determine continuation, modification, or discontinuation.
  • Perform administrative duties such as maintaining files, processing documents, and ensuring compliance with laws, ordinances, and policies.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Preferred fields include Management, Public Administration, Human Resources, Finance, Economics, or Organizational Psychology.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or ability to use alternative transportation for job-related functions.
  • Physical ability to perform light administrative duties, including occasional light lifting (up to 10 pounds) and ambulation.

To receive credit for your degree, you must submit a legible copy of your official diploma, transcript, or letter from the accredited institution showing the area of specialization and award date within seven days of application. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency by a NACES or AICE-recognized agency. Password-protected documents will not be accepted.
