Location: Bradford, BD3 0DZ – 12-month fixed-term contract covering maternity leave.

About the role

An experienced and qualified Management Accountant is sought to join the Finance team. This varied role combines technical accounting with business partnering, continuous improvement, and support for the Society’s mission of aiding people experiencing poverty and hardship. You will report to the Head of Finance and produce accurate, timely monthly management accounts across nationally managed activities, including National Office operations, charity shops, furniture stores, advice centres, supported accommodation, and the Trading Subsidiary.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate monthly management accounts for all nationally managed projects within agreed timescales.
  • Lead the preparation and presentation of the Trading Subsidiary management accounts.
  • Produce monthly financial reports, variance analysis, and management information for stakeholders.
  • Work closely with managers and budget holders to develop, monitor, and review budgets, identifying corrective actions where required.
  • Support the preparation of annual statutory accounts, consolidated accounts, and audit working papers; act as primary contact for external auditors.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Complete quarterly inter-Society reconciliations to support accurate financial consolidation.
  • Process and reconcile recharges between projects.
  • Produce financial trend analysis and performance reporting to support decision-making.
  • Review Finance Operations activities relating to income processing, accounts payable, banking, and membership, ensuring KPIs are met.
  • Monitor financial transactions across shops and projects, escalating potential irregularities.
  • Provide timely financial advice and excellent customer service to managers and colleagues.
  • Support the development and implementation of robust financial systems, controls, and processes.
  • Maintain accurate financial records, including fixed asset registers, lease information, and project records.
  • Ensure compliance with Society financial policies and procedures across all projects.
  • Deputise for the Head of Finance when required.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, project teams, and stakeholders.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, or CIMA).
  • At least three years’ experience in a management accounting role.
  • Experience producing accurate management accounts within a complex organisational structure.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (SUMIFS, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables).
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial information and identify trends.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to high accuracy.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, managing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, explaining financial information clearly to finance and non-finance colleagues.
  • Proactive approach, working independently, solving problems, and improving processes.
  • Commitment to supporting the Society’s aims, values, and mission.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the charity, voluntary, or retail sectors.
  • Experience working with auditors, business advisers, and Boards or Committees.
  • Active interest in the charitable and voluntary sector.

Pay

Up to £50,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
