Mammography Technologist- PRN

About the role

In collaboration with staff radiologists, this position possesses advanced certification in Mammography and assesses patients while safely performing advanced breast imaging procedures in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures and protocols. Serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.

Responsibilities

• Verifies physician order and procedure to ensure accuracy.
• Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care.
• Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
• Independently operates equipment to complete imaging procedure according to protocol.
• Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure images meet diagnostic quality standards.
• Completes timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and performs notification/remediation as warranted.
• Assists in the facilitation of departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.).
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions, and communication style.
• Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or ARRT registry eligible (must be registered within 90 days of employment).
• Temporary state license required; current unrestricted license in the state of practice.
• Advanced certification in mammography within 1 year of hire/transfer.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to travel throughout and between facilities.

Qualifications

• Completion of an approved Radiologic Technology program (required).
• Mammography experience (preferred).

Physical and Environmental Demands

• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue.
• Works in a patient care area, directly with patients, and/or with specimens that could contain communicable diseases.
• Occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment.
