Mammography Technologist - Per Diem

About the role

The Diagnostic Technologist Mammography performs diagnostic testing according to established departmental procedures, ensuring the delivery of quality patient care. This position operates diagnostic equipment, including peripheral equipment, in a safe and efficient manner to obtain optimal test results. The Technologist manages the patient during the diagnostic procedure to meet quality patient care standards, ensures supplies are maintained, and reports equipment problems to the appropriate staff member. This role also actively participates in and supports student clinical education activities where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic testing as directed by the physician at a competent technical level with minimal supervision.
• Operate diagnostic mammography equipment and related peripheral devices safely and efficiently.
• Manage patient care during diagnostic procedures to meet quality standards.
• Maintain supplies and report equipment issues to appropriate staff.
• Support and participate in student clinical education activities.
• Demonstrate ability to perform required department-specific tasks as outlined in the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

Work Environment

• Potential exposure to hazards and risks of a hospital environment, including infectious diseases, blood-borne pathogens, and hazardous substances (e.g., electromagnetic radiation).
• Requires ability to sit, stand, walk, and communicate, as well as interface with computer-based applications.
• Involves extensive pushing, pulling, and lifting of patients; ability to lift up to 50 lbs required.
• Core competencies assessed primarily on mammography and mammary disease/disorders patient population.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the Radiology Manager and takes direction from the Lead Diagnostic Technologist. Depending on location and department, this role may report to an alternate supervisor or manager.

Qualifications

• Licensed by the State of New Jersey, Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) for Diagnostic Radiography. License must be renewed biennially.
• Credentialed under ARRT for (R) and (M). ARRT certification expires annually on the incumbent’s date of birth and must be renewed.
• Graduate of an accredited radiological technologist school.
• 1 year of diagnostic testing experience preferred.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers required.
• Advanced certification from ARRT required within 1 year of passing initial registry or date of hire.
• Ability to multitask with attention to fine detail in a fast-paced environment.
• Skills for this position will be trained and required within 30-60 days of hire.
