Responsibilities
- Reviews physician’s order to assure appropriateness of examination being requested.
- Selects appropriate exposure factors based upon breast tissue density, patient’s age, numerical compression scale, and technical equipment characteristics.
- Performs a variety of clinical breast procedures with efficiency and high standards of quality; assures that the proper protocol is used for any given examination; evaluates images for diagnostic quality prior to submitting for interpretation.
- Performs breast ultrasounds, as directed by Breast Radiologist.
- Affixes to physician in set-up and performance of breast interventional procedures.
- Recognizes report and document malfunctions of technical equipment.
- Affords assistance in the training of new staff and student technologists.
- Maintains physical work environment to be in compliance with regulatory certifying agencies.
- Adheres to all infection control regulations.
- Performs bone densitometry or automated breast ultrasound exams, where applicable.
- Performs other duties as requested by Lead Technologist and Department Manager.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalency required.
- Certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) in Mammography.
- Certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) in Mammography or Certified by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD).
- 5 years of relevant experience and proficient in Automated Breast Ultrasound.
- Certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in Breast Ultrasound.
- Licensed by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA).
- Demonstrates excellent communication, customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates good decision making and judgment skills.
- Able to function in fast paced environment.
- Maintain required mammography continuing education as mandated by the Mammography Quality Standards Act.
- Maintain required bone densitometry continuing education as mandated by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry.
- CPR Certification.
Qualifications
