About the Role

Functions as a delegated agent of the physician and practices under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. Uses independent, professional, ethical judgement, and critical thinking to safely perform diagnostic medical procedures. Applies the As Low As Reasonably Achievable ("ALARA") Principle, including the lowest output power and minimal exposures, to ensure safe and effective diagnostic imaging. Uses proper patient positioning, tools, devices, equipment adjustment, and ergonomically correct techniques to promote patient comfort and prevent compromised data acquisition or musculoskeletal injury.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a thorough working knowledge of the operation of all equipment and current developments relating to mammographic imaging in accordance with ACR guidelines.
  • Performs Mammography examinations according to policy and protocol set by The American College of Radiology and the department.
  • Follows productivity standards set by the department.
  • Maintains proper quality control of the mammography program in accordance with ACR guidelines.
  • Performs breast biopsy/localization procedures with providers or other special projects in the department as requested (e.g., scheduling appointments, working special reports).
  • Serves as a resource in mammography to radiologists.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of an ARRT-accredited radiology program.
  • Florida State license from the Department of Health.
  • ARRT-certified mammographer with digital/tomosynthesis experience or completion within 3 months of employment.
  • Equivalent of 3 years (6,240 hours) of continuous mammography experience (education program does not count) with no more than a 1-year break in experience within the last 4 years.
  • At least 3 years of experience in mammography.
  • Intermediate knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures involved with mammography equipment use, human anatomy, proper patient positioning, and image processing methods.
  • CPR certified or certification required within 3 months of employment.
