Mammography Technologist I - PRN

Operate a mammography unit to produce images of the breasts for diagnostic purposes under direction of a physician. Explain the procedure to patients, position and immobilize the patient’s breast in the unit, and observe the scanning process. Monitor the video display of the area being scanned and adjust density or contrast to improve picture quality. Review and evaluate the film or image recording plate to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic imaging tests utilizing low-dose x-ray devices
• Work closely with doctors and other medical experts in patient care
• Keep track of patient records
• Adjust imaging apparatus as necessary
• Explain procedures to patients and respond to inquiries
• Adhere to a doctor's directions for images
• Use x-ray protection equipment
• Position patients using machinery to provide diagnostic pictures
• Retouch pictures as necessary

Requirements

• Associate degree from an accredited Radiologic Technology program
• Current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
• Certified in mammography
• Licensed by the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association (SCRQSA)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross equivalent)
• 0-2 years of independent mammography experience
