Mammography Technologist (Full Time) -Jefferson Health Torresdale

About the Role

Full-time position based at the Torresdale campus with possible coverage at Frankford and Bucks campuses. The Mammography Technologist performs mammography exams, screenings, and diagnostic studies, and assists during invasive procedures. Under physician direction, the technologist detects breast tissue abnormalities and presents findings for diagnosis, while delivering patient care and education before, during, and after procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operates mammography equipment and performs various mammography-related examinations for clinical screening and diagnostic purposes.
• Ensures successful procedures by positioning patients and breasts correctly, instructing patients, and adjusting compression mechanisms and exposure factors.
• Maintains patient and staff protection in accordance with radiation safety standards.
• Documents patient mammogram services by completing patient record charting.
• Obtains complete and accurate patient history and provides care and support before, during, and after procedures (e.g., explaining procedures, answering inquiries).
• Ensures equipment operation by completing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and maintaining inventories.
• Performs other related technologist duties as directed, including quality assurance/control tasks.
• Maintains continuing education requirements for licenses and job position.
• May require travel between Jefferson sites.

Requirements

• Specialized Diploma or Graduate of a recognized School of Radiology Sciences.
• Current validated Registry from ARRT in Radiology Technology (R).
• Knowledge of mammographic imaging techniques and procedures to produce diagnostic images for early detection of breast diseases.
• Ability to prepare patients for diagnostic imaging and monitor reactions during/after procedures; responds to emergent situations with appropriate measures.
• Mammography Technologists initially qualifying on or after April 28, 1999 must have at least 40 hours of documented training in Mammography.
• Documented training in Digital Mammography.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association.
• RT (Registered Technologist Radiology) certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

Physical Demands

• Lift and carry 40-50 lbs (e.g., pushing/pulling patients on beds/stretchers requiring 29 lbs. push force, lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of patient weight).
• Frequent to continuous standing/walking (e.g., patient transporters may walk 8-10 miles per shift).
• May require kneeling, bending, squatting, and performing CPR.
