Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic and screening mammographic examinations on adult, adolescent, and geriatric patients in an expedient and professional manner.
  • Performs mammographic imaging for breast needle localization procedures and stereotactic procedures as trained.
  • Provides immobilization devices, selects proper technical factors based on individual patient needs, and selects and operates equipment for specific procedures.
  • Identifies patient's images with the correct name, MRN number, and ensures that images are correctly marked as to the breast side and that all images have technologist's initials.
  • Aids with quality control procedures and documenting of phantom image, repeat analysis, calibration tests, geometry calibration, diagnostic review workstation quality control, compression test, visual machine checks, view box calibration test, artifact test, CNR/SNR testing, and reviewing condition, as delegated by leadership.
  • Aids in compiling statistics for patient follow-ups, tracking of breast localizations, biopsy recommendations, and follow-up on positive biopsy reports.
  • Documents procedures regarding quality control and quality assurance for mammography in compliance with ACR, MQSA, NJ State, and FDA.
  • Ensures proper use of the Faxitron system. Documents in EMR (EPIC) any pertinent information regarding patients.
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). Communicates with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
  • Understands and verbalizes proper shielding protocol as per institutional policy. Understands and verbalizes images wisely.
  • Ensures rooms are stocked and kept in an orderly manner. Ensures proper labeling of specimen images.
  • Tracks the location of the patient in Epic during the Breast Center visit. Ensures appropriate procedures are begun and ended in a timely manner.
  • Recognizes equipment technical errors and initiates corrective action.
  • Performs other duties as directed by supervisory personnel which includes but is not limited to training of new students/personnel.
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • Graduate of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology.
  • Must obtain 24 continuing education credits every 2 years and maintain 5 credits per year for mammography.
  • Must be registered as a Diagnostic Radiographer and a Registered Technologist Radiology & Mammography through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Must hold an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification.
  • Must hold an AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
  • Regular contact with Medical Center personnel, patients, and visitors.
  • Lifts a minimum of 15 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 200 lbs., and stands a minimum of length of shift.
