Job Summary

The Wellstar Diagnostic Float Team (WEST Team) supports a variety of imaging services across our facilities. Region One includes Kennestone Hospital, North Fulton Hospital, and Windy Hill. As a Mammography Technologist for Region One, you will apply your expertise to deliver safe, high-quality imaging and a supportive patient experience at each location you serve.

Pay

In return for stepping in where you’re needed most, Float Pool members earn a higher base rate and may be eligible for a float incentive.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist in a hospital setting. Minimum 2 years of Mammography experience in a hospital setting.
  • Certifications: ARRT-R (Radiography), ARRT-M (Mammography), BLS (Basic Life Support) – American Heart Association

Core Responsibilities

  • Perform mammography exams per physician order and protocol, confirming patient identity with two unique identifiers.
  • Gather relevant history, screen for contraindications, and explain the exam clearly (AIDET) to reduce anxiety.
  • Protect patient privacy, dignity, and comfort while positioning patients safely and assisting with transfers as needed.
  • Review images for quality and completeness, maintaining a strong first-time acceptance rate before releasing patients.
  • Use sound clinical judgment, clarify unclear orders (including RBAC for verbal orders), and assist in emergencies or across imaging areas when needed.
  • Operate mammography equipment safely, optimizing dose and technique, and keep equipment clean and ready per infection control/FDA guidelines.
  • Perform and document required ACR/MQSA QC tests and maintain records that support ACR, MQSA, EQUIP, and tracking system requirements.
  • Ensure all images are accurately labeled, oriented, and documented in PACS/RIS; complete daily charge capture for procedures.
  • Keep the mammography suite clean and stocked; apply shielding and immobilization devices appropriately.
  • Provide clear pre- and post-exam instructions, address questions or escalate to providers, and support training of new team members.
  • Maintain concise, timely documentation; stay current with emails and required education.
  • Communicate professionally, work well in a fast-paced team, and bring strong skills in anatomy, pathology, positioning, radiation safety, and mammography best practices.
