Mammography Tech

Responsibilities

• Utilize independent judgment and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of breast procedures, anatomy, and physiology.
• Perform mammography procedures in a technically proficient manner.
• Follow department protocols and specific radiologist direction.
• Corroborate patient's clinical history with procedure; ensuring information is documented in accordance with the department's standards.
• Prepare patient for procedures; providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
• Select and operate breast imaging equipment and associated devices to achieve desired results.
• Position patient and equipment to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest.
• Explain the need for breast compression while respecting the patient's ability and comfort.
• Apply principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
• Experience with stereotactic biopsies and/or willing to be trained to assist with this procedure.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
• Mammography experience preferred but not required.
• Stereotactic biopsy experience a plus.
• Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) with advanced certification in Mammography is required.
• Active ARRT certification status maintained by fulfilling continuing education requirements.
• Illinois State Licensure (IEMA).
• CPR Certification.
• Interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to present required.
• Knowledge of computer-based applications, email, and standard applications such as Microsoft Office.
• Working knowledge and skills of a mammography technologist and can perform the daily tasks and duties of a technologist, including patient care and completion of clinical exams.
