Responsibilities
- Utilize independent judgment and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of breast procedures, anatomy, and physiology.
- Perform mammography procedures in a technically proficient manner.
- Follow department protocols and specific radiologist direction.
- Corroborate patient's clinical history with procedure; ensuring information is documented in accordance with the department's standards.
- Prepare patient for procedures; providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
- Select and operate breast imaging equipment and associated devices to achieve desired results.
- Position patient and equipment to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest.
- Explain the need for breast compression while respecting the patient's ability and comfort.
- Apply principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
- Experience with stereotactic biopsies and/or willing to be trained to assist with this procedure.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
- Mammography experience preferred but not required.
- Stereotactic biopsy experience a plus.
- Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) with advanced certification in Mammography is required.
- Active ARRT certification status maintained by fulfilling continuing education requirements.
- Illinois State Licensure (IEMA).
- CPR Certification.
- Interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to present required.
- Knowledge of computer-based applications, email, and standard applications such as Microsoft Office.
- Working knowledge and skills of a mammography technologist and can perform the daily tasks and duties of a technologist, including patient care and completion of clinical exams.
