About the Role

The Mammographer performs mammography procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician, using x-ray technology and techniques to assist in the screening and diagnosis of patient medical problems across all age groups.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all types of mammography studies, including screening, diagnostic, and interventional procedures, while practicing radiation safety for patients, staff, and self.
  • Uses sterile technique as required.
  • Optimally demonstrates patient anatomy through proper positioning and selection of technical factors.
  • Competently operates all mammography equipment and support systems (HIS, RIS, Scheduling System, PACS) and evaluates images for technical quality.
  • Adheres to all state and federal regulatory requirements and accreditation (American College of Radiology) standards; provides proper documentation for regulatory and accreditation needs.
  • Utilizes department computer systems and PACS to review patient history and ensure accurate documentation of studies.
  • Properly cares for and images patients of all ages while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care; communicates with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families, and other hospital staff to ensure quality patient care.
  • Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination, or questions with courtesy and accuracy.
  • Participates in the department's quality improvement plan as required.
  • Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies supervisor of equipment problems and calls appropriate service vendors as needed.
  • Keeps the work area properly supplied.
  • Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a school of radiologic technology with current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • ARRT certification in mammography required within six months of eligibility.
  • Valid state medical radiographer license.
  • Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
