About the role
UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham North Tower Imaging offers a range of imaging services, including X-ray, bone density (DEXA), CT, MRI, and ultrasound with a strong focus on specialized breast imaging. We are the only department at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham that performs invasive breast procedures.
Responsibilities
- Operate equipment and perform various mammography related procedures. Prepare and position patients and select anatomic and technical parameters accurately.
- Explain procedures and educate patients about the role of regular mammography in preventive breast health.
- Develop and evaluate the film for technical quality such as density contrast, definition, and distortion.
- Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines.
- Ensure prompt submission of high-quality images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
- Ensure equipment is properly functioning. Report potential problems or equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department.
- May perform bone density scans using DEXA equipment, if applicable.
Requirements
- BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
- Bone Density Certification may be required within 6-months of hire or transfer date (if applicable)
- One or more of the following required:- Cardiographic Tech credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date
- Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
- Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited educational program in Radiologic Technology required
- Mammography Experiences Preferred
