Twin Falls County is accepting applications for the position of Juvenile Detention Officer to fill current vacancies and establish an eligibility roster for future openings. This is a continuous recruitment; applicants may not be notified immediately after applying.

About the role

Performs general non-sworn officer duties to ensure the safety and security of the County juvenile detention facility. Work is performed in a secure corrections facility under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, with exposure to potential personal danger.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors activities of inmates to ensure safety, security, and adherence to standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Processes new inmates, including fingerprinting, photography, physical search, drug/alcohol testing, data entry, housing assignment, and orientation.
  • Coordinates inmate scheduling for court appearances, evaluations, interviews, and related activities.
  • Performs release duties, including verifying court orders, logging release data, and following protocols; may include installing electronic monitoring equipment.
  • Monitors and logs inmate mail, telephone calls, and visitation to ensure compliance with established protocols.
  • Maintains facility security through patrols, physical searches of inmates and rooms, and security checks.
  • Monitors inmate behavior in housing, classrooms, dining, recreation, and other secure areas.
  • Logs inmate activities and movements during education, recreation, cleaning, mealtimes, showering, and interactions.
  • Administers disciplinary actions and holds inmates accountable following facility policies.
  • Performs observation checks on inmates, including those on medical or suicide watch, at prescribed intervals.
  • Conducts census counts to account for all inmates and inventory of equipment at shift changes.
  • Performs interior and perimeter security checks, including use of security cameras.
  • Transports and escorts inmates within the facility and to court hearings or other appearances.
  • Picks up, transports, and serves inmate meals; delivers and supervises medication administration.
  • Supervises inmate hygiene, including showers, laundry, and disease prevention procedures.
  • Assesses inmate health, obtains medical assistance when needed, and transports inmates for medical attention.
  • Participates in ongoing training for emergency responses, drills, escapes, inmate disturbances, and related incidents.
  • Performs duties in accordance with federal, state, county, and department laws, policies, and safety practices.
  • Responds courteously and promptly to questions from commissioners, officials, employees, and citizens.

Schedule

  • Rotating 12-hour shifts: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM and 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM.
  • Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.

Pay

$21.72 hourly.
