This is a Term position NOT TO EXCEED (NTE) 5 years and may be extended up to a total of eight years. Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.

Responsibilities

  • Exercise exclusive law enforcement jurisdiction responsible for the apprehension or detention of persons suspected or convicted of offenses against the criminal laws of the United States.
  • Serve as a police patrol officer enforcing Federal criminal laws and the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) involving persons and property.
  • Protect government property, materials and facilities against trespass, theft, fire, damage and espionage.
  • Detain or arrest suspected or guilty persons.
  • Collect and protect evidence, witnesses, victims, etc.
  • Arrest persons committing or suspected of committing crimes on the installation.
  • Patrol assigned area by vehicle or on foot to preserve the peace, prevent crime, and protect lives and property.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be proficient in the use of assigned firearms.
  • Incumbent is required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT) as outlined in AR 190-56 within 30 days of employment and annually thereafter.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing and equipment.
  • This position requires certification in the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete the US Army Civilian Police Academy program within 12 months of hire/ or is a current employee and is considered grandfathered IAW AR 190-56/or have a current approved waiver from (OPMG).
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass the National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This is an obligated position. Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. For GS-7 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Performing law enforcement investigation in accordance with established policies and procedures; 2) Collecting/preserving evidence for an investigation; and 3) Preparing statements concerning incidents such as accidents or law violations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.
