Makerspace Technician (Technical Support IV)

About the Role

The Makerspace is seeking a qualified technician to assist students and answer questions during class projects and labs about equipment usage. The technician will support students working on equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, soldering irons, and hand tools. Responsibilities include distributing, maintaining, and repairing Makerspace equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair equipment
  • Assist students with operating equipment
  • Introduce students to the space and train them on safety hazards
  • Supervise students' use of equipment

Requirements

  • An equivalent of an AA from an accredited college or industry-recognized certifications in electrical, electronics, manufacturing, carpentry, or a related field AND 2 years of industry experience in electrical, mechanical, or related maintenance and repair work OR
  • 4 years of industry experience in electrical, mechanical, or related maintenance and repair work

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a community college or high school setting with students
  • Experience with 3D printing, laser cutting, and soldering
  • Experience working with policies and procedures relating to diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, anti-racism, and accessibility, preferably in a minority-serving institution such as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI)
  • Experience with participation in programs relating to diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, anti-racism, and accessibility, preferably in a minority-serving institution such as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI)

Conditions of Employment

  • The person holding this position is required to be present on Mt. San Antonio College’s campus to perform all essential duties and responsibilities.
  • This position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with the requirements set forth in Administrative Procedure 3518, titled Child Abuse Reporting.
  • The person holding this position is considered a ‘Responsible Employee’ under Title IX and is required to report incidents of alleged sexual misconduct to the College’s Title IX Coordinator.

Schedule

This position works on an as-needed basis with a typical schedule of Monday through Friday, 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM.

Pay

Hourly rate is available on the Temporary Employment Hourly Pay Schedules.

Benefits

Persons employed for temporary positions are not eligible to participate in the College’s Health and Welfare plan or option fringe benefit plan. Human Resources will track eligibility requirements under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). If eligibility requirements are met, an open enrollment period will be initiated to enroll in an ACA-designated medical plan.
