Major Gifts Officer or Senior Major Gifts Officer

Responsibilities

• For Major Gift Officer Level:
  • Soliciting gifts from prospects capable of supporting Colorado College with gifts of $100,000 and higher.
  • Working with potential charitable investors to help them align their philanthropic goals with opportunities at the College.
  • Cultivating, sustaining, and growing relationships with the College's strategically important alumni, parents, and friends.
  • Recommend and assisting with programming involving the President, Vice President for Advancement, other vice presidents, and volunteer leaders.
  • Collaborating with Annual Giving and Parent Giving Officers to create a short-term and long-term engagement strategy for the region.
  • Maintaining relationships within academic departments and programs to regularly communicate key priorities back to development colleagues.
• For Senior Major Gifts Officer Level:
  • Soliciting gifts from prospects capable of supporting Colorado College with gifts of $100,000 and higher.
  • Working with potential charitable investors to help them align their philanthropic goals with opportunities at the College.
  • Developing and managing a portfolio of relationships, generally regionally based.
  • Cultivating, sustaining, and growing relationships with the College's strategically important alumni, parents, and other constituents.
  • Managing, coordinating, and traveling with the President and other College leadership as it relates to major gifts.
  • Partnering with the Prospect Research team to manage assignments, find new leads, and track activity.
  • Collaborating with Annual Giving and Parent Giving Officers to create a short-term and long-term engagement strategy for the region.
  • Working collaboratively with key volunteers, advancement staff, and other College representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for College-wide priorities.
  • Actively participating in training and mentoring new major gifts officers.

Minimum Qualifications

• For Major Gift Officer Level:
  • Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of two years of experience in major gift solicitation and volunteer management, or five years related experience in sales, marketing, volunteer personal solicitation, external communications, or development.
  • A creative, enthusiastic team member with strong communication skills and proven ability to administer complex projects.
  • High ethical standards; ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds; a clear commitment to the mission of a liberal arts college.
  • Willingness and availability to travel extensively, as well as occasional weekend and evening work.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record that is insurable by Colorado College's motor vehicle insurance carrier.
• For Senior Major Gifts Officer Level:
  • Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of four years of experience in major or planned gift solicitation and volunteer management, or seven years related experience in sales, the financial sector, marketing, volunteer personal solicitation, external communications, or development.
  • Demonstrated success raising complex major gifts.
  • Working knowledge of the basic planned giving vehicles.
  • A creative, enthusiastic team member with strong communication skills and proven ability to administer complex projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds; high ethical standards; a clear commitment to the mission of a liberal arts college.
  • Willingness and availability to travel extensively, as well as some weekend and evening work.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record that is insurable by Colorado College's motor vehicle insurance carrier.
