About the Role

This position will strengthen the teaching team in Inorganic Materials. The successful candidate will deliver courses in high-enrollment introductory materials units for second-year students (Chemistry and Physics-Chemistry tracks) as well as specialized units in the third-year Materials pathway of the Physics-Chemistry program, the first-year Master’s in Chemistry (Inorganic track), and the Master’s in Chemistry and Materials Science (first year and three second-year pathways). The role may also include teaching in the Professional Bachelor’s in Foundry.

All these units focus on the knowledge of major inorganic material families (properties, synthesis, characterization), particularly Metals and Alloys, as well as Thermodynamics of phase equilibria (reading, interpreting, and modeling phase diagrams). The new recruit will also support the Inorganic Materials teaching team in units such as Materials Selection and Recycling of Inorganic Materials, contributing expertise and dynamism.

Research

The Thermodynamics of Materials and Processes (TMP) team at the LMI laboratory consolidates all thermodynamic activities within the lab, including the Lyon Thermal Analysis Platform (PLAT), which houses a comprehensive range of thermal analysis equipment. The TMP team has strong, nationally and internationally recognized expertise in the thermodynamics of materials, particularly in relation to the development and transformation processes of metallic and ceramic materials (sintering, welding, brazing, heat treatments, etc.).

Research activities involve acquiring experimental data (phase equilibria or thermodynamic properties), thermodynamic modeling of systems using the Calphad method, and applying this data to optimize materials and processes. Recently, the team has focused its expertise on energy transition challenges, including aluminum alloy recycling, energy optimization of metallurgical processes, and the development of metallic alloys for latent heat energy storage.

The recruited individual will support this research theme in Materials Thermodynamics and advance aspects related to the energy transition, requiring a balanced profile between experimental activities and modeling.
