About the role

Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Team Manager, this role manages and directs all activities related to the daily management of predictive, preventive, and proactive maintenance programs to improve process reliability (PR) while reducing maintenance costs. The incumbent will maintain packaging, blending, and fermentation equipment in multiple departments and is responsible for complete maintenance and inspection of individual pieces of equipment. This position supports core reliability processes such as Autonomous Maintenance, Early Equipment Management, Training, and Focused Improvement.

Responsibilities include leading and developing direct reports, fostering a team environment, and meeting or exceeding established goals for safety, sanitation, PR%, cost, waste, quality (Q% and 5S), loss reduction, reliability improvement, and other performance standards. The role also involves supporting and developing High-Performance Organization (HPO) teams to ensure effective communication, personnel development, problem-solving, and process improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily cross-shift communications of relevant activities (adjustments, parts/settings changes, downtime, planned/unplanned work).
  • Ensure all safety incident reporting follows proper protocols.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and yearly required training for direct reports.
  • Review and complete required work orders daily and develop actions from completed work orders.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities and people resources to meet operational objectives.
  • Monitor activities and results, make assignments, and lead the escalation process to drive closure to plant losses.
  • Audit work orders and hold the team accountable.
  • Support core reliability processes (Autonomous Maintenance, Early Equipment Management, Training, and Focused Improvement).
  • Lead and facilitate team and cross-functional meetings.
  • Encourage continuous improvement and daily problem-solving initiatives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate and solve problems, diagnose mechanical issues, and resolve minor mechanical and processing problems.
  • Good PLC skills and knowledge of electronics, including flow meters, VFDs, DP sensors, and PID loops.
  • Knowledge of CMMS, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SAP, or other ERP tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform changeovers and preventive maintenance on all production equipment.
  • Formal leadership training and demonstrated practice of leadership principles.
  • Proven ability to coach, train, and influence while demonstrating respect for all people.
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills for risk assessment.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as required.
  • Acceptable attendance and a strong performance rating in the most recent review.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PLC (Siemens-Allen Bradley) and strong electronics skills.
  • Leadership skills and professionalism under pressure.
  • Flexibility in shift scheduling for training purposes.
  • Strong mechanical skills, including knowledge of pumps, valves, tanks, and burner control.
  • Ability to wear a PAPR (Powered Air-Purifying Respirator).

Pay

Base salary: $36.25 - $54.38 per hour. Compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. This position is also eligible to participate in McCormick’s Dividend Program.

This role is for the 3rd shift (night shift) at our FMC Plant located at 11102 McCormick Road, Hunt Valley, Maryland. The Workleader will report to Maintenance Team Manager Jeff Zaremski.
