Maintenance Worker-Streets

Responsibilities

• Provide manual assistance to other workers engaged in the maintenance of City streets and drainage systems including the construction of streets, storm drains, and retaining walls;
• Street patching;
• Repair and installation of traffic control devices;
• The clearing of drainage ditches, storm drain pipes and inlets.

Requirements

• Basic knowledge of materials, methods, and techniques of construction, maintenance and repair activities related to the area of work assigned;
• Knowledge of standard safety practices and precautions applicable to tasks performed and equipment operated;
• Skill in operating basic tools and equipment commonly used in assigned work area;
• Ability to read and understand operation manuals and chemical application instructions;
• Ability to follow and understand written and verbal instructions;
• Ability to drive standard shift vehicles;
• Physical ability to perform essential job duties.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and write sentences with common vocabulary usually acquired through less than high school graduation;
• Six months experience performing field maintenance duties, or any combination of education, training and experience providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform essential job functions.

Special requirements

• Valid Commercial Driver’s License or qualified to obtain within six months of employment as a condition of continued employment.
