Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs general manual labor tasks in order to maintain streets, drainage system and infrastructure as assigned.
- Performs maintenance and repairs within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations.
- Operates and maintains a variety of specialized tools and equipment; assists with maintenance work on tools and equipment.
- Assists in the repair and maintenance of drainage system and roadways; inspects storm drains and drainage ditches; checks manhole covers; clears trash, brush, weeds and debris; digs and fills holes and maintains slopes; clears and repairs roadway and adjoining areas.
- Learns a variety of work tasks and procedures, including repair and maintenance of streets, roadways, and infrastructure.
- Follows all safety rules and regulations to minimize risk of accidents.
- Responds as directed to perform emergency cleaning and maintenance work.
- Cross trains in all maintenance tasks.
- Responds outside of normally scheduled work hours in response to special events, natural disasters, emergencies, or critical incidents as determined by the City.
- Maintains the integrity, professionalism, values and goals of the City by assuring that all rules and regulations are followed, and that accountability and public trust are preserved.
- Cooperates with co-workers professionally to accomplish work efficiently and effectively.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND one year of maintenance work experience.
- Required Licenses or Certifications: Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
- Required Knowledge of: City policies and procedures; Occupational hazards and safety precautions; Customer service standards and protocols.
- Required Skill in: Operating and maintaining tools and equipment according to basic operating and safety procedures; Performing heavy manual labor including lifting and carrying heavy objects; Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures; Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
