Maintenance Worker ll - Streets
About the role
The City of Katy is seeking a skilled and dependable maintenance professional to join their Public Works team. This role involves performing various routine/preventative maintenance activities, such as checking and repairing landscape items, operating and maintaining small engines and various equipment, changing and replacing street signs and fixtures, trimming trees and bushes, cleaning street drainage structures, mowing and edging grass, applying fertilizer and mulch, spraying weeds, collecting trash, providing assessment reports to the Superintendent, assisting with supervision of assigned areas, managing bandit sign operations, coordinating ROW preparation for city events, maintaining an inventory of basic lawn maintenance products, and assisting with event set-up and emergency response preparedness.
Responsibilities
- Performs various routine/preventative maintenance activities;
- Checks and repairs landscape items;
- Affixes and replaces street signs and fixtures;
- Trims trees and bushes;
- Cleans street drainage structures;
- Mows and edges grass;
- Applies fertilizer and mulch;
- Sprays weeds;
- Collects trash as needed;
- Provides assessment report to Superintendent;
- Assists with supervision of assigned areas;
- Bandit sign operation;
- ROW preparation/coordination with contracted services for City events as needed;
- Maintains an inventory basic lawn maintenance products related supplies;
- Report/order-assist with supplies as needed;
- Assists with the set-up of events including emergency response operation preparedness;
- Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
- Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High school diploma or equivalent; AND five (5) years of general maintenance experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Knowledge Of: Department policies and procedures; Understanding basic landscape irrigation systems, including repair and maintenance checks; Basic ROW maintenance operations and ability to train/guide field staff; Safety policies, procedures, and practices; Contractual service provisions/ability to assess third-party/extended service operation.
- Skills In: Operating basic landscaping equipment, tractors, and familiar with backhoe basic operations; Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; Receiving direction, working independently, and occasionally leading of field operations.
Qualifications
- Valid State Driver's License required.
