MAINTENANCE WORKER II PUBLIC WORKS - SIDEWALK - INTERNAL ONLY

About the role

This position is only open to current City of Plantation employees. Applicants must be either in a full or part-time capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Performs semi-skilled carpentry, masonry, painting, and general maintenance of municipal buildings, equipment, and City property.
  • Performs concrete work, including mixing concrete, replacing and repairing sidewalks, digging, grading, setting forms, and tamping and leveling concrete.
  • Understands the layout and installation of sidewalks, curbs, and valley gutters.
  • Operates heavy equipment, including loaders, backhoes, rollers, and other equipment necessary to perform assigned duties.
  • Operates road saws, concrete grinders, jackhammers, chainsaws, and a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Installs barricades and traffic control devices to ensure safety within public rights-of-way and work zones.
  • Exercises proper care and follows all safety procedures in the operation of equipment, tools, and machinery.
  • Completes daily work orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Supervises and directs employees in lower classifications, providing guidance and oversight of assigned work.
  • Assists higher-level trades workers in the completion of skilled trade projects.
  • Executes purchase orders as authorized by the supervisor and/or department director.
  • Performs miscellaneous pickups, deliveries, and other errands as required.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or directed.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and skill in the use and care of cleaning materials and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the methods and tools used in cement finishing and asphalt installation, as required by the position.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards associated with the trade and the proper use of safety practices.
  • Knowledge of the City safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to operate assigned equipment safely and effectively.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs, as required.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under hot and humid conditions.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions and complete work assignments accurately.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and direct employees in lower classifications.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, other City departments, fellow employees, supervisors, outside agencies, and the general public.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; supplemented by a minimum of one (1) year of experience in grounds, street, roadway, concrete, asphalt, landscape maintenance, construction, or a closely related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

Pay

The closest thousand to the amount of Annual Salary is up to $50,000.

Schedule

Most full-time employees work 40 hours per week unless otherwise indicated. Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday (except City Holidays) 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM unless otherwise noted.
