Major duties and responsibilities
- Plans - lays out - and completes work involving the repair - replacement - and installation of wood components such as siding - doors - paneling - ceiling tile - window and door frames - and door jams
- Constructs shelving and simple frameworks
- Installs and replaces hinges - locks - catches - and related hardware
- Performs medium grade finish work
- Repairs building infrastructure to include minor electrical and plumbing
- Uses hand and power tools such as hammers - drills - handsaws - screwdrivers - routers - power saws - and sanders
- Affords assistance to journeyman technicians with more complicated tasks including electricians - pipefitters and HVAC
- Paints materials installed as part of repair work and performs touch up painting on interior and exterior surfaces
- Ensures workmanship is free from skips - runs - and drips
- Uses brushes - rollers - spray guns - and related methods
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Physical Requirements
- Exerts very heavy physical effort - routinely lifts/carries items up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavier loads with assistance of lifting devices
- Performs tasks requiring climbing ladders - prolonged walking - standing on hard surfaces - bending - stooping - and working in tiring or uncomfortable positions
Working Conditions
- Works indoors and outdoors in environments involving dirt - dust - fumes - grease - and varying temperatures from hot/humid to cold conditions
- Subject to hazards such as falls from ladders - scaffolds - and roofs; risk of cuts - bruises - scrapes - abrasions and other injuries
- Wears Personal Protective Equipment as necessary
