About the Role

This is a temporary role running August–September, with the possibility of extension based on business needs. The Maintenance Technician, under the general supervision of the Maintenance Manager, is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the building's equipment and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and repair of boilers and boiler room auxiliary equipment, including pumps, steam and water valves, air compressors, and high-pressure condensates.
  • Monitor load demands and start or shut down boilers, air compressors, and water pumps to maintain required steam, air, and water (cold, hot, re-use) output.
  • React to changes in load demands, including during emergencies.
  • Monitor the chemical feed system for water treatment, conduct necessary tests, and adjust chemical levels.
  • Manipulate valves to control the flow of water and fuel and adjust steam, water, and air output as needed.
  • Adjust equipment controls to correct malfunctions and observe operating equipment, meters, and gauges to ensure proper operation.
  • Inspect boiler safety devices and report abnormal conditions or major repair requirements to the shift supervisor.
  • Assist in implementing remedial actions and log all information in the daily log book.
  • Perform minor repairs, such as replacing defective meters, packing valves, worn gaskets, and tightening joints.
  • Respond to calls from departmental personnel regarding issues like temperature control, relay information to the shift supervisor, and log maintenance activities.
  • Maintain the boiler room and work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition; clean and paint equipment as necessary.
  • Assist in the annual boiler inspection and prepare boilers for inspection.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the organization’s core values through active involvement in the quality improvement process.
  • Follow safe work practices, adhere to safety rules, and participate in organizational and departmental safety programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • 2+ years of progressive work experience in ammonia refrigeration, steam boilers, and air compressor operations and maintenance (preferred, not required).
  • Working knowledge of electrical troubleshooting for ammonia central systems, control/alarm systems, water tube and fire tube boilers, and compressed air systems (preferred, not required).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be added to corporate insurance.
  • Able to pass a physical examination and Respirator Fit Testing.
  • Demonstrate understanding and adherence to all work safety policies, procedures, and governing requirements.
  • Maintain and manage job toolboxes in an accurate, neat, and orderly manner.
  • HAZ-MAT training and RETA 1&2 certification preferred but not required.

Skills & Abilities

  • Prior experience in manufacturing maintenance, including machinery; food, beverage, or CPG experience preferred.
  • Technician-level knowledge and mechanical ability to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and natural gas-fired equipment.
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with digital tools for communication, information access, and work tracking. Experience with Microsoft Office suite and ERP or CMMS programs is a plus.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and regulations.
  • Forklift certification preferred but not required; training will be provided.
  • Ability to comprehend verbal and written instructions and training in English.
  • Commitment to teamwork and flexibility in a start-up environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, cleanliness, organization, and ability to follow instructions.
  • Hand/eye coordination and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work unsupervised or with limited instruction.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at high elevations, and lift objects up to fifty pounds.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with minimal supervision.
  • Work performance must demonstrate a sense of urgency.
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to consistent attendance.

Schedule

Full-time hourly, 40+ hours per week. Shifts include nights, with overtime and weekends as assigned.

Pay

The pay range for this role is $30–$40 USD per hour (Sumner).
