About the role

The City of Durham’s Department of Water Management (DWM) seeks individuals who are passionate about managing vital water resources, protecting the environment, and providing excellent customer service. Responsibilities

  • Perform semi-skilled labor requiring technical repairs, operation of light-duty equipment and power tools, and/or leading the work of others performing general labor or custodial work.
  • Coordinate and/or perform custodial and collection operations including assigning, inspecting, and/or performing cleaning operations; as assigned, picks up residential trash, cleans and maintains floors, maintains grounds, cleans and sanitizes bathrooms, and sets up and tears down events.
  • Perform technical work, service checks, and preventative maintenance on electronic and other applicable equipment, systems, and vehicles; administer and schedule repairs; track equipment recalls; replace defective equipment or parts; operate light-duty equipment, power tools.
  • Maintain supply inventory; stock equipment; gather and compile information, prepare routine reports; maintain records and databases; proof work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide customer service; respond to customer questions and concerns; resolve or escalate issues; provide information on policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC)
  • Three years of custodial service, equipment operation/driving or specialized maintenance experience based on assignment.
  • A valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record is required for certain assignments.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with operating automated floor maintenance equipment, i.e. self-driven floor scrubber, buffing machines, etc.
  • Willingness and ability to visit various sites to evaluate performance.
  • Experience creating work schedules for your work unit or work group.

Pay

Hiring Range: $46,762.00 - $51,574.00

Schedule

Hours: 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Qualifications

Positions Assigned To Custodial Services May Be Responsible For Leading a custodial crew and perform cleaning services including maintaining facility cleanliness. Maintaining custodial supplies. Assigning and inspecting work.

Skills

Must be willing and able to visit various sites to evaluate performance. Previous experience creating work schedules (or schedule of duties) for your work unit or work group.
