About the role
The Maintenance Technician position is responsible for maintaining and repairing swine facilities and equipment at Iowa Select Farms production sites. Key responsibilities include adhering to biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety policies, scheduling and completing maintenance tasks, and troubleshooting mechanical issues.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to ISF bio-security policy and report violations to management.
- Adhere to ISF animal wellbeing policy and report incidents to the Production Well-being team.
- Follow ISF safety policies and procedures, wear PPE, and work safely.
- Work closely with site managers and production supervisors to ensure optimal facility operation.
- Review and prioritize maintenance requests, focusing on high-priority items.
- Be available for weekend emergency maintenance.
- Demonstrate knowledge in general construction methods and perform various repairs and replacements.
- Manage parts inventory and complete necessary repairs.
- Complete repairs safely and according to manufacturer's recommendations.
- Use hand and power tools for maintenance tasks.
- Maintain equipment inventory levels on maintenance vehicles.
- Shower in and out of facilities as necessary.
- Attend work on scheduled days and be ready to enter barns by start time.
- Be friendly, positive, helpful, team-oriented, and respectful to co-workers and management team.
- Flexibly work during health and staffing challenges.
Requirements
- Previous maintenance experience preferred but not required.
- High-level problem-solving skills.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish, with fluency in both written and verbal communication.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform manual labor.
- Physical stamina and ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Basic computer and smartphone skills.
Qualifications
- Knowledge in general construction methods including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and welding.
- Experience with fabrication, welding, and repair of curtain systems, penning area, feedline systems, ventilation systems, waterlines, building roof, siding, ceilings, windbreaks, hog paneling, light fixtures, motors, outlets, heating and cooling systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and work independently.
