Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial plumbing systems, including water supply, drainage, sewer, and medical support piping.
- Repair and replace faucets, sinks, toilets, valves, water heaters, pumps, and other plumbing fixtures.
- Perform preventative maintenance on plumbing equipment and building systems according to established schedules.
- Respond quickly to emergency maintenance calls, including water leaks, sewer backups, clogged drains, and equipment failures.
- Perform general maintenance tasks including carpentry, painting, drywall repair, electrical troubleshooting, HVAC support, and other facility repairs as needed.
- Maintain mechanical rooms, utility spaces, and equipment in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Aid with installation and modification of plumbing and facility systems during renovation or construction projects.
- Monitor building systems and identify potential maintenance concerns before failures occur.
- Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to document work orders, preventative maintenance, labor hours, and materials used.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, OSHA regulations, infection prevention standards, and applicable building codes.
- Cook up with contractors and vendors as needed for specialized repairs.
- Support departmental goals by maintaining a positive, customer-focused attitude when interacting with staff, patients, and visitors.
Education
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Technical or vocational training in plumbing, facilities maintenance, or a related trade is preferred.
Experience
- A minimum of 3 years of commercial or institutional maintenance experience is required.
- Previous experience in a hospital, healthcare facility, or similar critical environment is preferred.
- Strong commercial plumbing repair and troubleshooting experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of commercial plumbing systems and repair techniques.
- Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and general building maintenance.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and work order systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.
- Basic computer skills for documenting maintenance activities.
