About the role
Performs difficult general maintenance work on park amenities, grounds and facilities. May be assigned intermittent supervisory responsibilities involving small work crews.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for plumbing and HVAC systems and components.
- Opens parks and stabilizes all plumbing for Spring & Summer months.
- Closes parks and winterizes all plumbing for Winter months.
- Checks and maintains the parks, drinking fountains, water lines, hose bibs and restroom facilities.
- Checks and maintains heating/cooling systems, boilers, water heaters and air conditioning units.
- Checks and maintains the swimming pool water systems by calibrating and monitoring the proper chemical balance of the pools.
- Checks and maintains parks irrigation systems.
- Installs new equipment and amenities.
- Repairs and renovates all existing amenities, facilities, and grounds.
- Operates equipment such as mowers, trucks, tractors, chainsaws, forklift, bobcat, boom truck and other equipment used in the maintenance of parks.
Other duties and responsibilities
- Secures all park facilities and buildings as necessary.
- Prepares material lists and order supplies for work projects.
- Performs inspections of park facilities.
- May be required to work with or supervise inmates.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Required (Essential) Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, welding and electrical.
- Working knowledge of heating and air conditioning systems along with boilers, pumps, and motors.
- Working knowledge of pool systems and water chemical balance.
- Skills in planning, organizing, and directing crews, operation of trucks, tractors, mowers, chainsaws, forklift, bobcat, boom truck and other equipment used in park maintenance.
- Knowledge of general park maintenance procedures.
- Knowledge of department rules and regulations.
- Ability to work flexible hours, which will include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to communicate effectively with subordinates and the general public.
- Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
- Must attend a work release supervisor training class annually.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) preferred.
Material and Equipment
- Operates a variety of equipment used in routine maintenance, including mowers, trucks, tractors, chainsaws, forklift, bobcat, boom truck and other equipment used in the maintenance of parks.
- May be required to use personal vehicle.
Working Environment/Physical Requirements
- Majority of work is performed in an outdoor setting where weather conditions can vary from extreme heat and cold, with high levels of dust, dirt, fumes, and noise.
- Physical activity includes prolonged standing, bending, stooping, lifting, walking and uses arms and hands frequently.
- Must have the ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 to 75 pounds and assist in lifting objects weighing in excess of 100 pounds.
Education
- A high school diploma or equivalent required.
- Journeyman Plumbing License preferred.
