Maintenance Technician (Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts)

About the Role

This is a semi-skilled and sub-journey level position focused on building, grounds, and equipment maintenance. Incumbents install, operate, maintain, and repair building exteriors and interiors, power and manually-operated equipment, and grounds. Work includes painting, plumbing, masonry, carpentry, landscaping, and minor electrical repairs. Functional supervision may be exercised over semi-skilled and unskilled workers.

Responsibilities

• Install and alter playground and sports facility equipment; attach appurtenances.
• Perform routine maintenance on mechanical equipment, including lubricating bearings, cleaning and replacing filters, and cleaning equipment.
• Install and repair plumbing fixtures; remove traps and purge drainage systems.
• Assist in the installation and repair of air conditioning units and perform minor wiring tasks.
• Apply paint by brush or spray gun to municipal buildings.
• Prepare and maintain records of time and materials utilized.
• Assist in mechanical work on lawn mowers and portable pumps.
• Maintain sprinkler systems.
• Represent the City positively and professionally in interactions with colleagues and clients, regardless of gender, race, religion, age, disability, political affiliation, or sexual orientation.
• Establish and maintain effective professional relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and managers.
• Perform related work as required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent, plus two (2) years of experience in general construction or maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
• Preferred: Four (4) years of experience in general construction or maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
• Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
• Valid Driver’s License with proof of automobile insurance.
• Acceptable background record and driving abstract.
• Non-usage of tobacco or tobacco products for at least one year prior to application and throughout employment.
