About the Role

The primary role of the Maintenance Mechanic is to provide competent and effective electrical and mechanical maintenance support to the plant and facility operations in a safe manner. This includes maintaining, adjusting, and repairing plant machinery to meet industry standards while ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies such as USDA, OSHA, FDA, EPA, and local government. The position requires a flexible schedule focusing on preventive maintenance and timely repairs.

Responsibilities

• Install, troubleshoot, and repair manufacturing equipment such as assembly, conveyors, forming, and mixing (oven operations is a plus).
• Follow work instructions and OSHA safety rules, including the use of all PPE and other safety equipment in an industrial environment.
• Diagnose problems, replace and repair parts, detect and replace defective items, test, and make final adjustments for high-speed production equipment.
• Diagnose and repair all electrical functions.
• Prioritize and triage in a fast-paced work environment.
• Maintain equipment in accordance with diagrams and manufacturer specifications while following preventive maintenance work orders and scheduled PMs.
• Generate work orders and parts requests.
• Use machine shop and other related machines as required to repair parts or fabricate modifications.
• Complete work orders, PMs, and the documentation for that work.
• Use mechanical and pneumatic processes, including cylinders and glue machines, date coders.
• Operate equipment such as forklifts, scissors lifts, and other appropriate equipment.
• Maintain current GMP, safety, food safety, and technical knowledge by actively participating in training.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience working in the food manufacturing industry.
• 4 years of experience working as an experienced-level maintenance mechanic.
• PLC experience is a plus.
• Able to work a rotation 12-hour shift, including weekends, some overtime, and occasionally.
• Ability to follow manufacturing specifications and schematics.
• Knowledge of food-grade aluminum and stainless-steel welding techniques.
• Complete knowledge of fabrication techniques.
• Electrical knowledge and packing machinery experience a plus.
• Possess a full complement of necessary hand and power tools to support an industrial manufacturing plant.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize items, and be self-motivated.
• Complete knowledge of all tools required for industrial maintenance, including those used to broach, mill, and lathe.
• Must be able to communicate and understand safety issues, including reading information on safety equipment and relaying relevant information to coworkers.
• Basic knowledge of control power and main power.
• Ability to identify and understand all different lubricants and their use, from chain lube to high-performance synthetic lube.
• Knowledge of welding techniques (MIG, TIG, Acetylene).
• Understand pneumatic and water systems.
• Ability to use soldering techniques.
• Ability to read electrical schematics.
• Ability to identify appropriate motor frame, power load, and amp draw.
• Must have their own set of professional electrical tools, including voltmeter and amp meter.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or its equivalent is required.
• Complete working knowledge of the manufacturing process, typically resulting from a minimum of five years’ experience in related jobs.

Ability to read and interpret quality documents, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and energized equipment. The noise level in the work environment varies depending on tasks.

Schedule

This is a full-time, non-exempt position requiring 40 hours per week on a 2-2-3 schedule (6:00 PM to 6:30 AM). It may require working additional hours depending on business needs.
