Maintenance Technician / Millwright

Grain Millers, Inc. is a leading provider of whole grain ingredients used in cereals, breads, bars, snacks and many other food products throughout North America. With no layoffs in our 35+ year history, we are seeking a Maintenance Technician/Millwright to repair and maintain plant equipment and facilities while improving operational efficiencies and reliability.

About the role

You will communicate with operations and support personnel to achieve operational goals, follow all good manufacturing practices and policies to maintain food-grade processes, and work as a team with all areas of production and maintenance. This is a swing shift position (3:00 PM – 11:30 PM).

Responsibilities

• Document work performed in the Maintenance computer system.
• Maintain all mill equipment and perform required preventative maintenance according to schedules.
• Work from ladders and catwalks, and travel safely on the company man lift (vertical conveyor designed to transport personnel from the basement to the 9th floor and provide access to all floors).
• Follow all safety policies and perform safe work practices with documentation, including lock-out tag-out, preventative maintenance documentation, electrical safety, hot work program, grain handling standard regulations, and safety committee recommendations.
• Follow all good manufacturing practices and quality policies and procedures.
• Maintain a clean work environment.
• Repair and perform predictive/preventative maintenance of plant equipment and facilities.
• Operate welders, presses, grinders, and other equipment to perform aspects of the position.
• Occasional extra work shifts and mid-week holidays when business conditions require production or maintenance support.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 2 to 3 years of industrial maintenance experience.
• Welding experience a plus.
• Previous millwright experience is desired.
• Pneumatics experience.
• Machining knowledge.
• Power transmissions knowledge.
• Knowledge of hydraulics.
• Knowledge of compressors, boilers, and steam/water systems.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Ability to adapt and change directions as process and/or production schedules may be revised on short notice.
• Ability to work with others in a team environment.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Ability to follow all safety, quality, and GMP policies and procedures.
• Ability to work in an environment with dust and a variety of changing climatic conditions (not climate controlled).

Physical Demands

• Ability/flexibility to work in tight or hard-to-access locations.
• Must be able to work in a variety of changing climatic conditions and tolerate grain dusts.
• Must be able to work from heights.

Schedule

The workweek schedule is a night (swing) shift, five (5) days consisting of 8-hour shifts and any required overtime to maintain mill operation.
