About the Role

This position will travel between Issaquah, Bellevue, Maple Valley, and Redmond. The Facilities Technician is responsible for maintaining multiple aspects of facility maintenance for YWCA’s diverse portfolio of over twenty buildings in King and Snohomish County. You will perform common duties to ensure the safety of tenants and staff, oversee general and detailed maintenance programs, and coordinate with staff and vendors for the safe and efficient functioning of facilities and housing.

This role has a social justice component requiring critical thinking about how external systems impact our work through the lens of racism and intersections with poverty. Core principles of antiracism work must be grounded in everyday tasks, and the ability to work well in non-white environments and champion anti-racism policy is essential.

Responsibilities

• Complete work orders within the expected timeframe and track/record progress.
• Assist with painting, drywall, plumbing repairs, electrical troubleshooting, ballast changing, cleaning, rekeying, light carpentry, and general repairs to all building systems in common areas.
• Support the administration of maintenance functions, including inventory tracking, data entry, and maintaining safety records.
• Assist the Operations Manager in maintaining the physical upkeep of communities, common areas, and grounds to ensure clean and safe environments for residents and employees.
• Schedule or perform testing, inspections, and preventative maintenance (PMIs) for systems such as pumps, boilers, fire control systems, elevators, backup generators, smoke, and carbon monoxide detectors.
• Oversee contractors for professional services and repairs when necessary.
• Respond to after-hours building emergencies as part of an on-call rotation.
• Ensure all communication projects and requests align with YWCA’s overall strategy and messaging.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, volunteers, vendors, residents, and clients.
• Obtain and review price quotes for parts and services for projects.
• Continue learning about racial, gender, and class equity.
• Treat clients, staff, volunteers, and community partners with respect and dignity, regardless of race, ethnic background, gender, or socioeconomic status.

Requirements

• 2-3 years of hands-on facility maintenance or building trades experience.
• Basic computer skills, including the ability to use work order apps.
• Ability to work effectively and diplomatically as a team player with site personnel and supervisors.
• Working knowledge of building and mechanical systems.
• Experience with a variety of power and hand tools.
• Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic understanding of carpentry, cabinetry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and drywall.
• Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple complex tasks, and maintain composure under pressure.
• Ability to travel regularly between YWCA locations.
• Valid Washington State driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance.

Pay

Hourly Range: $30.00

Schedule

Full-Time, 40 hours per week, with occasional overtime. Non-Exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

• Frequently reaches above shoulder level, below the waist, and overhead while completing repairs, changing fixtures, painting, or servicing building systems.
• Frequently works in confined spaces, on uneven surfaces, and in awkward positions.
• Frequently operates maintenance vehicles, carts, ladders, and powered equipment safely.
• Frequently performs repetitive motions involving hands, wrists, shoulders, and back.
• Frequently works in varying weather conditions and temperatures, including exposure to heat, cold, rain, wind, dust, dirt, cleaning chemicals, paint fumes, noise, and other environmental conditions.
• Must respond to maintenance emergencies, which may require walking extended distances, climbing stairs, and performing physically demanding tasks under time-sensitive conditions.
