About the Role

The Maintenance Technician I inspects, maintains, repairs and installs mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic and/or hydraulic equipment at plant and/or pump stations. This role requires utilizing the auto crane truck to pull lift station pumps and miscellaneous other pumps and motors on a frequent basis. The position also involves maintaining the grounds at all City-owned and maintained lift stations. The role frequently requires working alone and unsupervised during assigned duties on the assigned Lift Station routes.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the maintenance of all equipment and grounds at the WWTP and all associated City-owned and operated lift stations as required by Veolia's contract.
• Must be available for call-outs.
• Perform maintenance, repairs, and installations of mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.
• Use precision measuring devices, testing equipment, and shop tools such as drill press, band saw, bench grinder, and torque wrench.
• Inspect and diagnose process problems in multiple unit processes, troubleshoot mechanical, electro-mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic equipment, and take corrective action within policy and procedure limitations.
• Accurately estimate time and material costs for assigned projects.
• Operate Computer Maintenance Management System (software).
• Maintain proficiency in the care and use of all site-specific, facility-required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment), including gas detectors, confined space equipment, and electrical test meters (AMP & Voltage Meters).

Work Environment

• Ability to work alone and in inclement weather conditions is essential.
• Work in all weather conditions Florida provides, including strong winds, rain, and extreme high temperatures.
• Primarily outdoor work with limited indoor work.
• Work is conducted at a safe and reasonable pace.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Two to five years of experience in a related position in a similar environment with the ability to comprehend complex specifications, blueprints, and manuals preferred.
• Some vocational training and mechanical aptitude required, with the ability to read, interpret, and record data from meters, gauges, scales, panels, computer consoles, and other equipment.
• Must possess a valid driver's license (commercial license is desirable) and a safe driving record.
• Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.

Skills

• Effective written and oral communication skills to convey operational, process, safety, and quality instructions.
• Basic mathematical calculation abilities.
• Proficiency in maintaining, installing, and repairing a variety of equipment, including pumps, engines, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, chemical feed and odor control, disinfection equipment, vacuum filters, and belt presses.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
