Maintenance Technician II (1st Shift)
This position is based at our state-of-the-art Innovation and Manufacturing facility in Winston-Salem, NC.
About the role
The 1st Shift Production Maintenance Technician II performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, repair, preventative maintenance, and installation tasks on facilities, physical plant equipment, and production machinery. This role requires demonstrated competency in activities that directly or indirectly affect product safety and quality.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to all company and OSHA safety rules, policies, and regulations.
- Perform safety and environmental inspections as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Perform assigned preventive maintenance (PM) and predictive maintenance (PdM) tasks.
- Utilize predictive maintenance tools (ultrasonic, vibration analysis, laser alignment).
- Proactively identify equipment trends, root causes, and variances; develop and implement improvement action plans.
- Perform scheduled maintenance on all plant and production equipment.
- Quickly respond to and correct mechanical and electrical equipment issues.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and replace defective or worn equipment parts, control devices, motors, belts, pneumatic systems, etc.
- Identify and work with gearboxes, motors, pulleys, gears, belts, bearings, seals, etc.
- Perform painting, carpentry, sheetrock, and flooring repairs.
- Set up and tear down meeting rooms, including A/V equipment operation, maintenance, and repair.
- Perform facility lighting change-outs (interior and exterior).
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of boilers, steam-related components, environmental control systems, and dust extraction systems (PMs, repairs).
- Install, maintain, calibrate, and repair lab equipment.
- Demonstrate solid knowledge of PLC and related controls.
- Perform equipment changeovers with high proficiency.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection systems.
- Operate variable frequency drives (VFD) proficiently.
- Use machine shop equipment, including lathe, mill, grinders, and drill press.
- Operate welding equipment (gas/MIG/TIG).
- Read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics and drawings.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Grade level movement dependent on demonstrated equipment knowledge, tracked via Maintenance Training Matrix.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 4–8 years of maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver’s license; MVR (Motor Vehicle Report) will determine eligibility to operate motorized powered lifts (e.g., forklift, scissor lift, one-man lift).

Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance Technology/Mechatronics and/or Electrical/Electronics.
- HVAC training, experience, or education.
- Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or other regulatory experience.
- Food manufacturing, packaging, blending equipment, or batching operation systems experience.
Physical Demands
Must be able to see, hear, speak, and write clearly to communicate with employees and customers. Manual dexterity is required. The role involves heavy lifting, bending, crawling, and climbing.
Work Environment
The manufacturing facility is clean, orderly, properly lighted, and ventilated. Noise levels range from low to moderate, with some areas requiring hearing protection.
