Maintenance Technician I

Responsibilities
- Conduct corrective repairs as reported by users or identified during shift inspections to restore functionality.
- Perform basic skilled trade work, including plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry tasks.
- Maintain and replace light bulbs, HVAC filters, ceiling tiles, and unclog or service plumbing fixtures.
- Complete planned and scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- Conduct preventive maintenance repairs (PMR) to correct defects discovered during PM or predictive maintenance (PDM) activities.
- Provide assistance to central shops, contractors, and other campus departments or zones, including event support.
- Complete work orders promptly and accurately, recording labor hours, action codes, materials used, and detailed trade notes.
- Report to the supervisor any conditions or issues requiring additional attention or follow-up.
- Create work orders for any unassigned repairs identified during the shift and update records as necessary.
- Report maintenance, health, and sanitation deficiencies as observed.
- Support and comply with all university, local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and safety standards.
- Aid in inventory control, proper tool and equipment use, and security of assigned areas.
- Participate in required safety trainings and meetings.
- Collaborate effectively with other Facilities staff and campus departments.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including support in other areas during staff shortages or emergencies.
Qualifications
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades; or a high school diploma and 2 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
- Three (3) or more years of experience in general maintenance, facilities operations, or a related skilled trade.
- Experience performing basic repairs in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance (PM) and work order systems.
- Familiarity with building systems such as HVAC, lighting, and plumbing fixtures.
- Ability to safely operate maintenance tools, equipment, and materials.
- Strong customer service and communication skills when interacting with campus staff, students, and vendors.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Experience working in an educational, institutional, or large facility environment.
- Ability to communicate in conversational English in order to work effectively with customers and team members, operate and interpret the functions of the electronic equipment (iPod touch for IWMS PM checkpoints), comprehend standard safety procedures, and utilize telecommunication devices.

Pay
The anticipated hourly rate range for this position is $15.66 to $20.36. The final rate will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations. This position is eligible for 5% Shift Differential Pay of the pay range minimum.
Schedule
The position works varying shifts, including Sunday - Wednesday, 3:00 PM to 1:30 AM and Wednesday - Saturday, 3:00 PM to 1:30 AM. Specific schedule assignments will be determined based on departmental needs and candidate availability.
