Responsibilities
- Maintain airport grounds: weed mitigation using approved mechanical and chemical control methods; pick up trash, debris, and tree limbs; trim bushes, trees, and shrubs; maintain flower beds weed-free
- Perform minor and preventive maintenance and repairs on small equipment
- Maintain taxi lanes, aprons, hangar areas, terminal grounds, roadways, and landscaped areas (irrigation, raking weeds)
- Perform routine inspections of airport facilities and equipment; sweep sidewalks and parking lots
- Monitor pavement joints and non-movement airfield surfaces for vegetation growth; report infrastructure concerns
- Clear snow from building walkways in winter and treat with deicer as needed
- Serve as backup to Airport Custodial: clean and sanitize restrooms, restock supplies, clean floors and carpets, empty trash
- Initiate repairs from help tickets submitted by staff
- Assist in setup, preparation, tear-down, and clean-up for special events or equipment
- Coordinate with other departments and outside vendors for repairs and services
- Operate mowers, trimmers, hand and power tools, and heavy equipment
- Analyze operational problems and recommend procedural improvements
- Maintain records, logs, and ledgers of work performed
- Compile data for administrative analysis and prepare reports
- Serve as a representative of the City of Prescott
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years’ experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, public works, facilities maintenance, airport maintenance, or related field (experience with zero-turn mowers and/or tractors preferred)
- Valid Arizona driver’s license
- Pass a TSA-mandated 10-year security background investigation, pre-employment drug test, fingerprint background check, and driver record check
- Completion of non-movement training within three months of hire
Skills
- Knowledge of grounds maintenance, landscaping, building construction, repair, and renovation trades
- Knowledge of machinery (zero-turn mowers, tractors), equipment, and tools for maintaining public areas
- Basic preventive maintenance on assigned equipment
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC maintenance and troubleshooting
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet)
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, and customers
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and meet routine deadlines
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Work is performed outside under potentially adverse weather conditions
- Repetitive standing, walking, reaching, bending, and stretching for long periods
- Operate required equipment and City vehicles
- Communicate effectively in person, over radio, and by telephone
- Work day, evening, night shifts, weekends, and split shifts
- Perform manual labor for extended periods: lifting, pulling, pushing, climbing ladders, stooping, bending, twisting; lift up to 50 pounds
- Exposed to adverse weather, high traffic areas, chemicals, rotating equipment, noise, voltage, and other hazardous environments
- Work in a dynamic environment requiring responsiveness to changing goals and priorities
