Maintenance Technician - FT Days

About the Role

Performs general facility maintenance and repair disciplines in a hospital setting and its associated medical clinics. Work includes preventative and corrective maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment, in-house telephone system, plumbing, carpentry, and painting. Services and cares for all health center exterior grounds and buildings. Assists with moves, transportation, and security as needed. Supports the environmental services department with cleaning, floor care, and terminal cleaning in the facility. Performs lawn care and light-duty equipment maintenance.

Any position that has direct patient care is considered safety-sensitive by Avem Health Partners standards.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains the functional integrity of the facility’s electrical, mechanical, and communications equipment by performing preventative and corrective maintenance in compliance with established policies, procedures, regulations, and codes.
  • Maintains and repairs facility equipment, including portable and stationary equipment, as well as the physical structure and furnishings.
  • Performs minor construction work, including plumbing repair, carpentry, drywall and tape, and painting.
  • Completes work order documentation and communicates department material needs to ensure adequate stock.
  • Cleans up work areas, disposes of waste materials, and secures dangerous equipment and supplies.
  • Safely operates department equipment, tractors, and cleaning machines.
  • Buffs, strips, and waxes floors.
  • Maintains lawn care and floor care equipment.
  • Ensures safety for patients, staff, and visitors during equipment use, such as lawn mowing.
  • Cares for lawns, shrubbery, and trees, including snow and ice removal.
  • Moves furniture and other heavy objects as required.
  • Adheres to safety rules and complies with all health and safety requirements.
  • Assists with additional duties as requested.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent education preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written).
  • Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematics.
  • Working knowledge of carpentry, painting, grounds keeping, and plumbing repairs.
  • Current plumbing or electrician license preferred.
  • One year of maintenance technician experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Must meet general health requirements set forth by facility policies, potentially including a medical and physical examination.
  • Constant walking required.
  • Frequent bending, climbing, squatting, and twisting.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50–100 pounds occasionally, 25–50 pounds frequently, and 10–20 pounds constantly.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of patients during emergencies.

Special Requirements

  • Capable of performing a variety of duties and prioritizing responsibilities.
  • Must be available based on facility needs, including on-call and emergency response.
  • Must possess adequate sight (color perception required) and hearing or use prosthetics to meet position requirements.

Working Conditions

  • Regular exposure to hazardous energy (electrical and mechanical).
  • Work requires physical dexterity, strength, and agility in awkward, strained, or squatting positions for long periods.
  • Work may involve small, cramped spaces, heights, ladders, or scaffolding, and requires pushing and pulling.
  • Exposure to grasses, foliage, moisture, dirt, hazardous materials, and infectious waste.
  • Occasional cleaning of fecal matter, blood, urine, vomit, etc.
  • Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
  • Moderate noise levels in the work environment.
