About the role
This Maintenance Technician - Electrical position supports our NASA customer on the Marshall Engineering Technicians and Trades Support contract (METTS). The role is responsible for maintaining and repairing mechanical components for CNC Machines, Mills, Lathes, and other equipment within a large machine shop. Responsibilities include installing, repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining a wide variety of machines to ensure efficient operation. Work involves 3-phase electricity and high voltage systems. Occasional overtime may be required, including second or third shift support for 24/7 onsite or on-call needs based on customer and contract requirements.
Responsibilities
- Examine machines and mechanical equipment to diagnose sources of trouble
- Dismantle or partly dismantle machines and perform repairs using hand tools, scraping, and fitting parts
- Read and interpret electrical documentation
- Troubleshoot electrical systems and controls
- Perform preventive and predictive electrical maintenance
- Install and maintain electrical equipment
- Communicate specifications for major repairs or parts needed
- Clean machines, maintain shop areas, organize parts and tools, and support installation of new equipment from a mechanical standpoint
Requirements
In general, the work of a Maintenance Technician - Electrical requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
- Ability to lift up to twenty pounds on an occasional basis
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- May require walking, bending, climbing stairs, stooping, lifting, and navigating shop/machine work areas
- Must be able to bend, stoop, or lift occasionally with or without reasonable accommodation
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Previous experience with NASA
Work Environment
- Environmentally controlled, heated, and cooled shop area subject to machinery noise
- Laboratory, test environments, test stands, and possible confined spaces
- Occasional outdoor work
Other
- All positions supporting the METTS III contract are contingent upon successful completion of NASA medical screenings at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter
- This position is subject to a pre-employment background check
- Must meet eligibility for a Public Trust background investigation for government-issued credentials and IT access; must pass a security background check per Redstone Arsenal/MSFC requirements
- Required to provide two (2) forms of Federal I-9 documents
- Required to provide a REAL ID-compliant identification to gain access to RSA and MSFC
